Mission Statement:
The Tri-State Literacy Council is a volunteer organization working to raise the literacy levels of adults.
Where: Cabell and Wayne Counties in West Virginia, Lawrence County, Ohio, and Boyd County, Kentucky.
To learn to read or to read better:
Come to the downtown library or call us at 304 528-5700. Extension 155 or 156.
“Each one teach one”:
One student has one tutor. The tutor can teach the way the student learns best. They meet at any library. Many people study there. No one will notice the pair. Some books are easy and for adults. Those are the ones to start with. The tutor will help. The work can go slow or fast. It is free.
To learn to teach an adult to read:
Call, email, fax, write a letter, or come to the Literacy Office on the third floor of the downtown Cabell County Public Library.
The child that was “left behind” a few years or a few decades ago still needs to learn to read medicine labels, job manuals, stories to children, street signs, maps….
It takes about 12 hours to learn the basics, and the classes are free.
