Library Gala Set for March 9
You are invited to the library’s annual Gala, on March 9, 2013
Have you always wanted to pack your bags and jet off to “Carnival” in the marvelous city of Rio de Janeiro? Sounds like a grand trip, doesn’t it? One that’s certain to be filled with music and dancing, fine food and tasty drinks and, of course, loads of fun and laughter.
Well, we’re sorry we can’t treat you to an airline ticket to Rio. But we’re happy to do the next best thing and welcome you to Library Gala 2013, our annual celebration promoting the Cabell County Public Library. Each year our Gala takes its theme from some corner of the globe and this year we’re focusing the fun on Rio.
Decorations generously provided by Ken Fox of Magic Makers and Macy’s have enabled us to transform the Guyan Golf & Country Club into a Rio-like setting, where the evening opens with a reception at 6:30 p.m., followed by a five-course gourmet dinner at 7 p.m. and lots of entertainment over the course of the night.
Joining us will be Jude Binder, a much-honored dancer and artist from Big Bend, West Virginia, whose amazing talents have to be seen to be believed. We’ll enjoy the Brazilian guitar sounds of Daniel Ferriera. And, as previous Gala guests know, we always have some surprises (and prizes) in store.
Oh, and something else: It’s traditional for Carnival-goers to wear masks and we hope you will do so. Let your imagination run wild, as we’ll be awarding a prize for the most creative mask of the evening.
Although as always our Gala agenda is filled with fun, please don’t forget that the money raised will go for an important purpose – supplementing the Library’s budget for programs and materials. When a parent tells us their child’s reading ability improved two grade levels as a result of our “Read-A-Loud” dog program, we know we must be doing something right. And it’s only with your financial support that we’ve been able to offer such innovative programs.
Now, it’s “Carnival” – let the fun begin!
