Captain Rick Rhodes, author of eight travel guidebooks, has more than a few stories to tell about the Ohio River. On Monday, July 19, at 6:30 p.m. he will be coming to the Cabell County Public Main Library to share some of these stories in a program entitled ""The Ohio River in American History".
Rick is well-traveled in the Americas. By the time he was 22, he had hiked the Appalachian Trail, and visited all 48 contiguous states --most by motorcycle. For 18 years, he lived aboard boats --three of them, and twice sailed his 33-footer to Central America. In South America, he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
He has taught engineering for the Army and he has taught sailing. Wherever he sails, Rick engrosses himself in the local history. Aboard his boats, Rick has traveled and researched from Lake Michigan to the Gulf of Mexico, most of Florida's upper Gulf Coast, and the entire length of the Ohio River along with its many tributaries.
Rick will be showing photographs from his latest book and entrancing his audience with his yarns. This program is free and open to the public. Call 304-528-5700 with questions. Also you can visit Rick's web site at rickrhodes.com.
