“Anyone who can bring some Christmas cheer from a piece of toilet paper is pretty creative and embodies the spirit of Christmas.”
So declared one of the judges in the Annual Main Library Wreath Making Competition in describing the winning wreath constructed by the Maintenance Department. Other judges used words like “innovative” and “definitely unique” to describe the wreath.
Made out of materials such as insulation, romex wire, and toilet paper bows, this wreath is…well, sort of beautiful!
The judges all expressed the difficulty of selecting only one winner from the array of wreaths that were all remarkably beautiful, original, witty and expressive of the ideals the Library upholds. One of the most notable wreaths was submitted by the Administration Department. Wholly created by Megan Collins, it is a triumph in stunning blue. The Reference Department created a wreath that expressed how they see themselves: dominating their wreath were hands reaching out to assist the public. The Special Events Coordinator, Norma Casto, used the wreath competition to plug the next Library Gala: it is a delightful tribute to Irish culture.
One judge wasn’t sure she wanted to be a judge for next year’s competition. “I hated having to choose just one. They’re all great…very clever and creative.”
The Library wants to thank all the judges and all the participants. The wreaths will be on display at the Main Library until the middle of January.
