Camping Out @The Library
summer 2003
Throughout the summer, we hosted events at all our branches as part of our Camping Out @ The Library summer reading program. Here are some of the pictures we'll be pressing into our memory book from the summer of '03, taken at the Summer Reading Program Kids' Picnic, July 31 at the National Park Service's Corps of Discovery II: 200 Years to the future: A Tent of Many Voices at Harris Riverfront Park. We had about 200 children and parent attending. We had a puppet show, a display of Native American Indian Crafts, and a display of items from the Lewis and Clark expedition presented by a member of the Army corps of Engineers (we had an American flag from that period , 1803-1806, army uniform and coins and trinkets which L&C used to trade with the Native Americans). We also had the tri-state dulcimers perform, which was a lot of fun. The puppet show was "A Campin' We Will Go" which was created and starred Stacy Richardson-Bond and Barbara Gilbert, who work at the Main Library's Youth Services Dept.
